The Free Agency Period in the league is officially behind us, and now in front of us is the glorious Season 2 of Flight2K. What moves have teams made to get closer to their goal of the Larry O’ Brien Tropy, and more importantly, were the moves good? Here are your winners of the Free Agency:
Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers met a treacherous ending last season, when LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid barely survived the owner-less Detroit Pistons in Round 1 and then lost in 5 to the Toronto Raptors in the very next round. It was obvious the 3 Bigs Formula was not working in Philadelphia, so naturally, moves were to be expected. They shipped off Anthony Davis for 2 more big men, Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond, and used those guys to eventually end up with C.J. McCollum, LaMarcus Aldridge, Goran Dragic and a first. The 76ers played smart, using trades for more trades until they got pieces they wanted. In Free Agency, the 76ers most notably signed Point Guard Trey Burke to come off the bench, which was badly damaged as Quinn Cook, Jeremy Lamb and Delon Wright all left. Despite their bench taking heavy damage, they still managed to trade their way and remain a contender.
Chicago Bulls
The Bulls have got to be one of the most unluckiest teams in the history of the Flight2K. Despite having Top Odds for the #1 Pick, they fall. Despite offering Kevin Durant a supermax contract, he leaves. Yet the Bulls managed to make the most of it, and now boast arguably one of the best Starting 5s we have seen in decades. With a talented roster already, they traded R.J. Barrett (2nd Overall Pick) to Detroit to get Kevin Durant back, then got pieces Anthony Davis, Chris Paul and Klay Thompson! Not only that, they signed quality bench pieces such as Trey Lyles, Shelvin Mack and Jordan McRae. The Bulls are looking like SERIOUS contenders in the league.
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies are back. After getting a brand new GM, the Grizzlies have made a ton of moves to make themselves playoff contenders. The Grizzlies missed out on their 1st Round Draft Pick this season due to their pick falling out of the Top 5, but no one signed more quality Free Agents this year than Memphis. Getting PatBev, Troy Williams, Emmanuel Mudiay, Kelly Oubre Jr., Richuan Holmes, Dewayne Dedmon, Kenneth Faried and then trading for Rondae-Hollis Jefferson, the Grizzlies have one of the most talented defensive rosters in the league.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans did not make many moves that will get them anywhere now, however, they made several moves that put them in a better position for the future. They re-signed guards D’Angelo Russell and Malcolm Brogdon to deals, traded away Russell Westbrook and got Dejounte Murray, Harry Giles and 4 First Rounders in return and then traded for Aaron Holiday and Kyle Kuzma. The Pelicans have made the exact right moves to solidify themselves as future contenders.
Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons might’ve won the offseason. The previously owner-less Pistons have over gone a massive overhaul and made the right moves. Drafting Zion Williamson #1 gave them a centerpiece, then signing Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe and using them for younger players via trade was an odd, but smart move by the management. The Pistons have re-united the young, electric duo of Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett and the proceeded to add the young Center, Karl-Anthony Towns to their talented roster. The Pistons are headed in the right direction after moving on from the Andre Drummond era.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors, although they didn’t need to, got much younger. Coming off a season where they forced the eventual champions, Los Angeles Lakers, to 7 Games in the WCF, you’d expect a more safe approach to the offseason, however, the Warriors played boldly and it’s looking like it will pay off. Trading away Bradley Beal gives James Harden much more spotlight, they then drafted Nassir Little and Bol Bol, two of the best defensive players in this years draft. Golden State also added much needed depth to their squad, signing Christian Wood, Nick Wood and Mike James to short-term contracts. The Warriors are geared for another playoff run
